New Foster Dog

Hello!!

My family and I recently took in another foster dog. He's only staying with us for two weeks, but it already feels like he's a member of the family :) We definitely will miss him when he's gone.

Bo (or BoBo as we call him) is a transport dog traveling from Little Rock, AR to Colorado. He was adopted out of the Little Rock Animal Shelter, but needed to be quarantined for 2 weeks before he could travel between states. Basically, he needs a health certificate to travel from state to state, and to obtain that, he needs to be out of a shelter and in a joke for at least 14 days. Since he was so close to us, we picked him up from the shelter. He's getting along really well with all of our dogs, and is such a good boy! He's a German Shepard lab mix and is between 6 months to a year old (although we think he's closer to 6 months). Bo is definitely a lot to handle, but I'm sure he'll calm down a bit as he gets older. He's a sweetheart :)

He's one of a kind, that's for sure!! He'll be on his way to Colorado soon, but for now he's a member of our family. I'm so glad we got to foster him, even though it's for such a short time.

Check back soon for more random posts about life, dogs, and Doctor Who :) Also, thanks for reading!!

Edward Flew the Coop

Hi, again :)

The orphaned baby bird we have been taking care of (Edward) flew back into the wild today. Mom and I went outside to check on him this morning and he was fluttering around and jumping from branch to branch inside his house. We fed him, gave him some water, and let him fly away- we wanted to roost in the tree in our front yard, but he decided to fly into the neighbors' shrub.

Edward's new home (for now)

Hopefully he'll be okay on his own. I'm sure he will figure out how to find food and water on his own- maybe a nice bird family will show him how to fend for himself. I'm glad he was healthy and able to be released back into the wild so soon!!

Thanks for keeping up with the Edward updates, and reading the blog :)

I'm Back!! And We're Fostering a Baby Bird!

Hey everyone!!

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted on here... This past semester kept me extremely busy, and finals were a nightmare. But at least that's all over and I can relax until band camp starts in August.

The summer hasn't been too exciting thus far, so I really didn't have anything to post after school let out. My family and I spent a week in Florida- which was absolutely amazing- but I complete forgot to blog while I was there (sorry :( ). And I'm really bad about taking pictures... But I'm working on it, promise ;) I'll be heading to Las Vegas in 3 days, so I will definitely attempt to blog and take a ton of pictures!

If you have seen any of my previous posts about the foster puppies, I have some exciting news- All of them have found their forever homes (along with Annie and Juliet)! Thank goodness for amazing pet owners :) All of the dogs seem to be doing really well in their new homes, but we haven't gotten any pictures from their new owners. I do have a one of Riley (aka Othello) and Annie:

We definitely love and miss all of the fosters, but I'm glad they are safe and happy in their new homes :)

I don't have a clever segue into the next topic... So yeah....

WE ARE FOSTERING A BABY SPARROW!! Each year, we have a family of sparrows build their nest on/in our roof. This year, for the first time, one of their babies fell out of the nest and landed in the holly bush in the front yard. We think he's only a few days old, but he may be a week or so old. He doesn't have too many feathers yet (mostly just down feathers), but he seems to be doing pretty well. Mom whipped up some baby bird food- soaked dog food, hard boiled eggs, and applesauce mixed together- and we have been feeding him every half hour for the past day. He's getting stronger and is definitely eating well! Hopefully we can release him back into the wild when he gets a bit older/ more independent.

I'll keep you updated on his progress every few days or so :) In the meantime, here's a few pictures:

He's definitely not the cutest thing in the world, but we love him already! My brother Drew decided the bird's name should be Edward (there was really no reason behind it).

Thank you so much for reading!! Check back again soon for more pictures and updates.

Shakespeare Litter- 5 Weeks Old

I can't believe the Shakespeare puppies are already 5 weeks old!  Time really does fly!  5 are adopted (Iris, Portia, Othello, Hamlet, and Beatrice), and Ophelia has an adoption pending.  Another couple is interested in Juliet, but we haven't done a meet-and-greet yet- they want to make sure she is ok with cats.  Until then, we still have to find the last three babies their forever homes :)

All the puppies are very healthy, and very plump (they never miss a meal!).  A fat puppy is a happy puppy!

Shakespeare Litter- 4 Weeks Old

So the foster puppies are now 4 weeks old!  Time is flying by- in a month they will be ready to go to their new homes :)  5 of the 9 are officially adopted.  Iris and Portia are going to the same home, while Hamlet, Othello, and Beatrice were adopted by 3 other families.  Othello is going to the Maddox family in Florida; he is going to having the best family!  My mom and Aunt Debbie (not really our aunt, but she's such a close friend, she is almost family!) have known each other since they were in high school, and our families are so close.  We aren't technically blood-relatives, but we basically are one big family.  I'm so exicted for them to meet Othello- we don't really know how we are going to get him to Florida, but I'm sure Mom can work something out.  He will be a Florida dog in 4 more weeks!
It's so easy to tell the puppise apart now- they all have vastly different personalities, attitudes, and physical characteristics.  Romeo is still the biggest of the bunch, but Brutus is catching up to him.  Horatio is the smallest, but he is very healthy so we are not too concerned about his weight.  They are all eating dog food soaked in water, and drink Juliet's milk when she lets them.  She's not too keen on being scratched and bitten, so she only feeds once or twice a day.  The puppies are starting to bark, growl, and play more often (which is the most adorable thing, ever)!  The house is pretty noisy now, but it's so worth it to be able to foster these sweet babies and their loving mama.
On to the pictures!!
